How many times in life have you found yourself envying what others have or can do? If I weren't typing this, I'd have both hands raised 🙋🏽♀️.
So many times, I wanted someone's skills, talents, position and possessions. Simply put, I wanted to be like them. I would pray that the Lord would anoint me with such skills, or show me how to gain what they have. After all, God is no respect of person, right!? Well, it’s true, He won’t provide for one child and not the other. However, what He gifts and when He does it has a lot of factors attached to it.
I suppose we can look at it in the sense of celebrating birthdays. What if parents celebrated all their kids' birthdays on the same day, the same way, and gave the same style cake and gifts. Now, most of us know that would be a problem.
Why? You ask!
Because each child likes different things, themes, and flavored cake. Each one wants to feel individually special on their day. So, why do we want what others have when God has something created special just for us? We think we know what we want, but God knows us better than ourselves. He knows what we can handle and what works with our personalities.
“But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9 KJV
I wanted to be a famous singer, but He gifted me with writing. I realized through experience, getting up in front of a crowd isn’t my most comfortable place to be, and the introvert in me would have some issues with the required lifestyle. Not to say the gifts God has given me won’t lead me before a crowd. However, I’m able to express myself a little clearer when I write in the comfort of my home and hid away under my blanket.
“A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.”
Psalms 18:16 KJV
I also thought I wanted the mansion on the hill, but then I question who’s going to clean it, what happens when I’m too tired or weak (due to health issues) to walk to the other side of it?
Also, being home alone in such an ample space would be an issue for me. Every strange noise would have me gripping a golf club and locking the bedroom door.
So, I’m learning to accept who I am and what God has for. Some things take time, knowledge, and hard work to gain. While other things are for my good that He doesn’t provide them no matter how hard I work to gain it. The hardest things to except are items I don’t want, but I’m learning to be thankful for them because not everything that is placed in my life is for me but is designed to help others.
We have no reason to envy others because God has something special just for you!
Remember, continue expressing what you believe and loving who you are as we reach back and walk life together!
